At Joyce's House Education Center, we believe that everyone has the potential to learn and grow, regardless of their background or experience. We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment where all students can thrive and achieve their goals,
In 2019, a remarkable vision came to life in the form of Joyce's House. This sacred haven was established as a sanctuary for women on the path to recovery from addiction, paying tribute to the indomitable spirit of its founder's grandmother, Joyce. Joyce, a beacon of strength and resilience, conquered her own addiction and remained sober for the final fourteen years of her life. Joyce fought her last battle on November 22nd, 2015. She was 58 years old.
From 2019 to 2023, Joyce's House served as a guiding light for over 228 women, offering them solace, support, and a chance at a brighter future. The founder's exceptional dedication and unwavering commitment led her to be recognized as the remarkable woman of Southearthern Wisconsin in 2020, where she received the esteemed Legacy Award in honor of her beloved grandmother. The impact of Joyce's House was felt far and wide. On May 31st, 2019, the governor of Wisconsin and the Mayor of Milwaukee proclaimed it as Joyce Davis Day, a testament to the profound difference this sanctuary was making in the lives of those it served. But the journey did not end there.
In 2021, the vision expanded as Joyce's House Education Center found its home within the recovery house, creating a haven for adults seeking empowerment through knowledge. Over the years, this center has served as a catalyst for countless students, propelling them towards the pinnacle of their educational and professional aspirations.
In the summer of 2023, Joyce's House Education Center blossomed, reaching out to the wider Milwaukee community. This educational oasis provided affordable and accessible options such as GED programs, realtor training, nursing courses, teaching opportunities, and so much more. Inspired by Joyce's thirst for knowledge and her unwavering passion for learning, the center aimed to empower individuals, regardless of their formal education background. Despite not having walked the path of formal education herself, Joyce's spirit thrived as an eternal student and avid reader. She instilled this love for learning in her three cherished grandchildren, nurturing their dreams of graduation and academic success with the support from her daughter, their mother.
While witnessing the completion of formal schooling in two of her grandchildren, Joyce's legacy continues to flourish, forever inspiring and guiding others. As Wisconsin's sole certified minority and woman-operated GED program and testing center, we aspire to inspire, uplift, and empower every individual who crosses our path.
